Jeanette F. Merritt, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 6, 2026, at the age of 77. Jeanette was born on September 6, 1948, in Ashburn, GA, to the late Roger and Magaline Forston.
In 2003, Jeanette married Jerry Merritt, and they spent 23 wonderful years together, creating a life filled with love and kindness. She and Jerry enjoyed traveling, especially going on bus tours to places such as Alaska and Niagara Falls.Jeanette was a valued member of the Family Worship Center in Cairo, Georgia, where she enjoyed participating in church activities and Connect groups. She had a passion for quilting and crocheting, often sharing her beautiful creations with family and friends. Known for her warm spirit, Jeanette had an innate ability to engage with everyone she met, always striving to make others feel comfortable and welcomed. Her generous and loving nature touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Jerry Merritt of Cairo; children Donna Kitchens (Gene) of Cochran, GA, and Bill Hickman (Tammy) of Fayetteville, TN; grandchildren J.T. Kitchens and girlfriend Molly Simms, Callie Outlaw (Connor), Matt Hickman, Mackenzie Hickman, and Kloe Merritt, sister Linda Bishop (Lavon) of Hawkinsville, GA, followed by numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Roger, Sue, and Gail.
A service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 3 pm at Allen & Allen Funeral Home with pastor Ricky McLaghin and son-in-law Gene Kitchens Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 2- 3 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cairo.
