Jerry Lee Rowe, 83, of Thomasville, Georgia passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Archbold Memorial Hospital with his wife and daughter at his side. Born in Leoma, Tennessee to Erskin and Effie Rowe he lived most of his life in Maryville, Tennessee before moving to Thomasville in 2012.
Jerry was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. He was a hard-working man who often performed acts of kindness without seeking attention or gratitude. He was thoughtful and kind, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Friends and family describe him as a quick-witted jokester who brought a smile to those around him.
Jerry was a devout Christian who worked for Martin Marietta nuclear plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee for the majority of his career. He was a veteran of the armed forces, a pilot and served his country during the Korean War. He was an Ombudsman in Tennessee for over a decade representing the rights of the elderly. He received his Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee in Education. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends, playing board games, watching movies and the Tennessee Vols football and basketball.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sue, of 61 years, daughter Lisa Mayer (Brett), grandsons Chad and Bradley Mayer, David Rowe, granddaughter Shannon Hitt (Anthony), sister Doris Gayle Murks and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Mike Rowe (Susan), sister Martha Jewel Tice, brothers Tommy and Charles Rowe and parents Erskin and Effie Rowe.
A memorial service will be held at the downtown Thomasville First United Methodist Church Chapel on Thursday, August 10th at 11am with Rev. James Sapp officiating.
