Jessie Mcmillon Dowdy

Services, celebrating the life of Jessie Dowdy, 79, of Pelham will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Springhill Christian Church, 7242 Maddox Rd, Ochlocknee, Ga 31773, where she was a lifelong member. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery. Jessie passed away peacefully on October 12, 2018 surrounded by her family. Jessie was a once in a lifetime woman. Her life was committed to God, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to watch Elvis movies and she loved to love on people. She was full of compassion and her hands were never still. She had a servant’s heart and always took care of those around her. She had a stubborn streak a mile wide and remained independent her entire 79 years. Her life was a living example of her favorite bible verse, Psalms 51:10 - “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Her bible notes revealed she prayed this prayer every day; and prayed it over her family as well. Jessie won many souls for Jesus, which was one of her greatest goals. We know now she has gone home to be with God, whom she believed in and loved so very much. Jessie is survived by her three children, Tammy Butler (Freddie), Van Dowdy, Sr. (Donice) and Valarie West; her grandchildren, Holli Allen (Pat), Joshua Butler, Blake Butler, Van Dowdy, Jr. (VJ), David West, IV, Chelsie Seago (Brandon) and Ashley Fox; special niece and caretaker, Jennifer Cone, and a multitude of great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James William Dowdy; her son, William Kevin Dowdy; granddaughter, Destin Butler Jenkins; parents, William Howard McMillon and Viola Barksdale McMillon; siblings, Helen Cone, Hubert McMillon, Loumarion (Midget) Smith, James (Son) McMillon and Preston (Peck) McMillon. Visitation will be held at the church from 1-2pm, before the service. Please know that Jessie prayed salvation through Jesus Christ over each and every one of you and loved you all. Her legacy will continue with all of us and our love for God.
