Jimmy Richmond Barber, 78, of Cairo, passed away on March 26, 2024. Jimmy was born on February 4, 1946, in Doerun, Georgia to the late Ervin R. Barber and Rosa Lee Baker.
Jimmy was a proud combat veteran in the United States Army as a sergeant, having served in Vietnam from October 17, 1966, to August 26, 1968. He then worked as an Insurance Salesman employed by Integon Insurance Company.
A man of strong faith, Jimmy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo and a former member of Coolidge Baptist Church where he grew up. He had a profound love for fishing, cooking, and hosting gatherings for his beloved family and friends. His warm and welcoming nature meant he never met a stranger, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Jimmy's joy in life came from spending time with his cherished family, particularly his eight grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness. He is survived by his loving spouse, Betsy Barber, and his children Tonya Thompson (Cecil) of Lake Mary, FL., Jim Barber Jr. (Nicholas Johnston) of Wilton Manors, FL., Jac Barber Jr. (Kelly) of Ochlocknee, and stepchildren Bobby Smallwood of Cairo, Malone Harrell of Cairo, and Anne Stadler (Chris) of Roswell, Ga. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren - Alexis Meier (Tony), Jacob Barber Jr., Chase Pittman, Margaret Louise Smallwood, Morgan Hartley Smallwood, Amelia Stadler, Ian Stadler, and Elliott Stadler. Jimmy is also survived by his brother Tommy Baker of Coolidge and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother Sammy Watson.
The family kindly requests that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee. Funeral services and ceremonies, officiated by Reverend Mike Keown, will take place graveside at Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 2 pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Jacob Barber Jr., Chase Pittman, Spencer Watson, Evan Watson, Clayton Lamar, and Cuy Lamar.
