Funeral services for Jimmy Groover Searcy of Thomasville, Ga. will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday April 9, 2014 in the chapel of Allen & Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Holland and Rev. Brent Welch officiating. Mr. Searcy died Sunday April 6, 2014 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born on March 7, 1939 he was the son of the late Rhett Groover Searcy and Jewel Lewis Searcy. Mr. Searcy was the retired owner of Searcy Heating and Air. He was well known for his annual Christmas light display on Skyline Drive which he looked forward to having every year. He not only enjoyed watching all of the cars and people come by, but his greatest pleasure was walking children through the many lights and seeing their excitement. He was a loving and generous dad and papa to his family and was a friend to many. He was married to Hazel Searcy who preceded him in death in 2006. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Julie and Danny Dukes of Thomasville; sons Jimmy Searcy Jr. and his wife Kathy of Coolidge, Ga., Jerry Searcy and his wife Jennifer of Pavo, Ga; grandchildren Kristen and Matt Benfield, Ashley Dukes Cox, Matt and Kristen Dukes, Brooke and Ben Edwards, Erin Searcy, Jimmy Searcy III, Taylor Searcy, Rhett and Amber Searcy; great grandchildren Molly Cox, Kinsley Benfield, Beau Dukes, Mason Edwards, Lyla Searcy; brother-in-law Alton Atkinson; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Grace Searcy Bryant and Betty Searcy Atkinson. His family will like to give a special thanks to Dr. Geoff Deutsch, Dr. Charles Sanders, Dr. Joseph Berger and the many staff members of Archbold Memorial Hospital and Camelia Gardens of Life Care for the great care they provided him with during his illness. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Second Harvest Food Bank of Thomasville at 1100 Smith Ave. Thomasville, Ga. 31792 or Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center, 910 South Broad Street, Thomasville, Ga. 31792. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM. Guest may sign the online register book at www.allenfh.com .
