Joan Chastain VanderBurg
Services for Joan Chastain VanderBurg, 74, of Orlando, Fla., are at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Ochlocknee Baptist Church. The Rev. Dennis Norman will officiate and interment is in Ochlocknee City Cemetery. Mrs. VanderBurg died April 8 in Orlando, Fla. of complications from cancer. Born July 19, 1932 in Ochlocknee she was the daughter of the late John Rainey and Annie Laura Dixon Chastain. She graduated from the public school in Ochlocknee before receiving her bachelors degree from Mercer University. In 1960 she moved to Orlando, where she lived the rest of her life, though she always carried the tender memories of Ochlocknee and the south Georgia pines in her heart. Mrs. VanderBurg was a teacher and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Orlando. She was married to LaFrance VanderBurg, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Charles Stewart III of Cambridge, Mass.; a daughter, Joni Stewart Wolfe of Orlando, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Sharon DeRidder of Orlando, Fla. and Terry Avick of Ocala, Fla.; a stepson, Curtis VanderBurg of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Langdon Brown and Logan Brown both of Orlando, Fla. and Cameron Stewart of Cambridge, Mass.; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Jane Chastain of Aguanga, Cali.; and a nephew, Blayne Chastain of Greeley, Colo.
