It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Holmes, who passed away on January 26, 2023 at the age of 87. Born in Thomasville, GA on January 22, 1936, Joan lived a full and rich life, surrounded by family and friends.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Ruth Stringer Hicks and William H. Hicks, and her husband, Jackson Autry Holmes. Despite this loss, she cherished and loved her family deeply, including her son Michael Holmes (Caren) of Lighthouse Point, FL and daughter Jan Roberts (Marty) of The Villages, FL. She was also blessed with multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always remember her as a kind, caring and loving grandmother.
Throughout her life, Joan had a strong walk with our Lord Jesus Christ. It was that walk which guided her to live a deeply committed life of service and philanthropic activities including Metcalf Methodist Church, Plantation United Methodist Church, 1st United Methodist Women of Thomasville, Archbold Memorial Hospital (where she was named Volunteer of the Year), FSU Emeritus Board, Vashti (home for troubled youth), Kids Against Hunger (Feeding the Hungry Around the World), and Wesley Glen (a private, not for profit organization that supports adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in a Christian environment).
A celebration of her life will be held on February 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at Metcalf United Methodist Church, 2009 Magnolia St, Metcalf, GA 31792, where her faith was nurtured and sustained throughout her life. A private graveside service at Springhill Methodist Church for immediate family will be held following the service.
Joan will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her warm smile, kind heart, and infectious laughter will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of selfless service and dedication to her community, all guided by her strong faith in Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Joan's memory to the Springhill Methodist Church, mailing address: 657 Funston Sigsbee Rd, Moultrie, GA 31768-2204.
