Services for Joan Rockel Benton Jemison, 85 of Tallahassee will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Tallahassee. Reverend Chris Sanders will officiate and interment will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 10 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville. Mrs. Jemison passed away June 3, 2017 in Tallahassee. Born May 17, 1932 in Springfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William Mahlon Rockel and Louise Ramsey Rockel. She was married to Groce E. Jemison, who preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter, Louise Benton Hudson and husband Chester of Tallahassee; son, George (Buzz) Benton of Thomasville; grandchildren, Robert & Ashley Hudson of Tallahassee and Cody Nelson of Thomasville; 1 great-grandchild, Christopher Hudson and nephews. She was also preceded in death by sister, Nancy Kreis and brother, Ramsey Rockel. Memorial contributions may be made to Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, 51 Children’s Way, Enterprise, Florida 32725. A reception will follow the service at the church.
