A Celebration of Life service will be held for Joan T. Sullivan on Saturday, May 19th, at 11:00am at the First Methodist Church, Thomasville, Georgia. Joan died peacefully at home, May 1st, following a brief illness. She was born March 6th, 1934 to Hallie McIntyre and Madison Worth Tolar. On September 14, 1952, she married Coleman D. Carr who preceded her in death.
Joan was an alumna of Vashti School for Girls and attended Joy’s Business College in Thomasville. She was a past-president of the Junior Woman’s Club in Panama City, Florida and served as secretary of the Vashti Alumni Association. Most recently, she served on the Board of Trustees for the Vashti Center.
Joan’s greatest joy was her family whom she loved hosting at her farm outside Thomasville or up in the mountains of north Georgia. Along with her husband, Bill, Joan took pleasure in hosting friends for UGA football games, church circle, and Keenagers. Joan made sure her family had a place to sleep and food to eat up until her final days.
Joan is survived by her husband of nearly 29 years, William (Bill) C. Sullivan, Sr., a son, Thomas D. Carr of Thomasville, a daughter, Beth Carr Brown and her partner Steve Sexton of New Castle, IN, stepson William C. Sullivan, Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Sevierville, TN; stepdaughter, Sandra Merck and her husband, Mike, of Apopka, FL. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Sarah Brown of Berkeley, CA, Nathan Brown of Sacramento, CA, Benjamin Brown of Denver, CO, Jenny Sullivan of Greensboro, NC, Adam Sullivan of Ansbach, Germany, Ryan Merck and his wife Lindsey of Orlando, FL and Kristen Hormann and her husband Mark of Bainbridge Island, WA. She is survived by great granddaughters, Kinley, Callie, and Macie Merck of Orlando, FL. Joan is also survived by special nieces, Denise Abercrombie of Cumming, GA and Carolyn Smith of Charlotte, NC.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Renee, brother, Matt, and son, Coleman Jeffrey Carr.
The Sullivan family would especially like to thank the ICU nurses and staff at Archbold Hospital and the nurse and staff from Hospice of Southwest Georgia who provided such loving care to Joan and her family.

The family will receive friends and guests in front of the First Methodist Church immediately following the Celebration of Life Service on May 19th.
