Graveside services for Joel Thomas Carroll, Jr. of Quitman, GA, formerly of Thomas County, are at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 26 on 15th Street in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The service will be officiated by David Amiss and interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Carroll died November 24, 2010 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born April 4, 1931 in Dixie, GA, he was the son of the late Joel Thomas, Sr. and Nannie Mae Strickland Carroll. On June 14, 1952 in Thomasville he married Shirley Beth Griffin, who preceded him in death in 2004. He retired after many years as a plantation manager for Sedgwick Land Company in Boston. Mr. Carroll served in the United States Marines and was a veteran of the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Judy Carroll of Thomasville, GA daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Johnny King of Coolidge, GA, Robin and Tony Owens of Metcalf, GA, Sharon and Donny Poitevint of Thomasville, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Opal Carroll of Jesup, GA, Wayne and Hazel Carroll of Quitman, GA, John Quillian & Zerelda Carroll of Nashville, GA. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Floyd S., Jr. and Laharon Griffin of Pensacola, FL, Florene G. and Ed Baldwin of Apple Valley, Calif.; grandsons, Cameron Carroll Charla, Tyler Carroll Lauren, Bryce Carroll of Thomasville, Matthew Burgess Ashley of Morven, GA, Cole Burgess Leigh Ann of Naples, FL, Cody Owens, Adam Owens of Metcalf, Nicholas Williams, Sam Williams of Thomasville, GA, Lee Mandy King of Boston, GA; granddaughters, Anna Burgess Amiss David of Thomasville, GA, Maggie Owens of Metcalf, and Keri Poitevint, Thomasville, GA; great granddaughters, Ella Kate and Ashton Carroll, soon to arrive Abigail Amiss all of Thomasville, GA; great grandsons Luke Amiss, Thomasville, GA, Austin & Tyler King, Boston, GA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Renee Carroll and a brother Bobby Raymond Carroll. The family will gather at the home of Steve Carroll, 262 Plantation Woods Lane, Thomasville, to receive family and friends immediately following the service.
