Joel Samuel J.S. Norman, Sr

Services for Joel Samuel J.S. Norman, Sr, 81 of Ochlocknee will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, September 10, 2012 at Ochlocknee Baptist Church, where he was a member and served as a deacon. Rev. Dennis Norman and Rev. Ronald Barrett will officiate and interment will be in Ochlocknee City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be fellow deacons and the mens bible class of Ochlocknee Baptist Church. Mr. Norman passed away peacefully at his home on September 6, 2012. Born August 31, 1931 in Colquitt County; he was the son of the late Mallie Norman and Beatrice Connell Norman. He was married to Cherry Davis Norman, who survives. Mr. Norman had lived in Ochlocknee since 1961. Throughout his life, Mr. Norman enjoyed farming and forestry. As a young man he owned and operated a TV repair business and later retired from Plantation Petroleum in 1993. His favorite hobbies were tending to the family farm and fishing. Other survivors include his children, Joel Samuel Norman, Jr, Robin Davis Norman, Suzanne Norman Ruh Bush; grandchildren, Joel Samuel, III, Jason Norman, Sarah Norman, Josh Norman, Chad Ruh, Pete Ruh, Ashley Rowland and Robin Davis Norman, Jr; great-grandchildren, Triston and Madeline; brother, Mallie Gene Norman and wife Linda, sisters, LaRue Nelson and Elmyra Hart and husband Donald; several nieces and nephews; and a loving, loyal Yorkshire Terrier, Tiffany. He was preceded in death by sister, Merle Norman Howell, brother, Carroll Norman, brothers-in-law, Frank Howell, William Nelson and Ralph Pate and son-in-law, Mark Lorimer Ruh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ochlocknee Baptist Church, P.O. Box 69, Ochlocknee, Ga 31773. The family will receive friends 4-6 pm on Sunday, Sept 9 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home and 10-11 am on Monday before the service. Guests may sign the online register at www.allenfh.com
