John Wesley Carroll, Jr.

John Wesley Carroll Jr. , 78 of Cairo, Georgia passed away at his place of residence Sunday May 30, 2021. Mr. Carroll's graveside service will be held at Union Hill Cemetery at 93 N Pelham, GA 31779 on June 12, 2021 at 2PM. Mr. Carroll was born in Cairo, Georgia to the late John Wesley Carroll Sr. and Martha Lashley Carroll on December 22, 1942. He was married for 21 years to Betty Sue Carroll. He retired after many years as a welder. Mr. Wesley worked for Harrison and Ellis Inc. for 30 years. He worked for Brown and Parka for 20 years. Mr. Carroll enjoyed piddling with scrap iron and working in the scrapping business with Mr. Burk Mobley. He was a dedicated customer of Maryland's Fried Chicken. His favorite was their fried pork chops with a side of squash and sweet tea. Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Carroll of Whigham, GA. Daughter, Vanessa (Steve) Mathis of Cairo, GA. Son, David (Jan) Carroll of Abbeville, AL. Stepson, Chris Phelps of Cairo, GA. Daughter, Jody Carroll of Bell, FL. Mr. Carroll's grandchildren are Charles Thomas of Kansas. Robbie Thomas, Ashley (Rodney) Lashley, Howard Cannon all of Cairo, GA. Joshua (Tara) Mathis of Boston, GA. Cassandra Mathis of Cairo, GA. Lacy Carroll of Abbeville, AL. Kameron Knight, Karissa Cannon, and Kiersten Spears all of Bell, FL. Mr. Wesley had 13 great grands along with a host of nieces and nephews. His siblings include JH (Barbara Ann) Carroll, Jabo (Karen) Carroll, and Annie Thompson, all of Cairo, GA. Along with his parents, Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by two daughters, Nivena Garner and Tammy Carroll. As well as the mother of four of his children, Ms. Betty Faye Scoggins.
