John Ellsworth Stevens

July 24, 1914 — September 12, 2003

John Ellsworth Stevens passed away suddenly at his home on September 12, 2003. He was born in Gloucester, Va. and grew up along the York River. His family moved to New Jersey in 1922 where he was a successful dairyman for 40 years. He retired to Florida in 1966, then moved to Thomasville in 1993 and enjoyed raising roses. He was an avid enthusiast of the Rose City Walk and won seven trophies for the oldest male walker with and average time of 41 minutes. Survivors include his wife Paulette M. Stevens of Thomasville,; daughters Suzanne K. Stevens of Thomasville, Melanie A. Mattson of Jacksonville, Fl., Paulette L. Geruso of Queensbury, NY; son Brian E. Stevens of Arlington, Va.,; sister Valerie Lois Kontes of Vineland, NJ; grandchildren Scott Mattson, Suzanne Fiore-Chambers, David D. Mattson, Brent Stevens, Holly Stevens, Jennifer Geruso, Jordyn Geruso; great grandchildren Wyatt L. Chambers, Shiloh J. Chambers , Tanner Mattson, Zachary Mattson. He was preceded in death by a grandson Ricky Fiore. Visitation will be at his home, 304 Habersham Rd., on Sunday, September 14, 2003 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. No flowers please.
