John Gates

Services for John David ' Dave' Gates, 84, of Thomasville will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Allen and Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Jay Ridenhower will officiate. Interment with military honors will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida, on August 11 at 10:15am. Mr.Gates went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 5th at his residence. Born May 25, 1930 in Farmville, NC, he was the son of George w. Gates and Alice Mccargo Gates. On December 23, 1955 in Mexico City, Mexico, he married Peggy Witherspoon Gates who survives. Mr. Gates retired from the United States Navy as a Senior Chief Parachute Rigger after twenty-six years of service. Other survivors include his children, Cheryl A. Gates Ridenhower and husband Jay of Thomasville, David M. Gates of Gulfport, MS and Darryl F. Gates of Gulf Breeze, FL; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren .
