Services for John Harvell of Metcalf will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Metcalf Methodist Church. Rev. Dan Barton, Dr. Jimmy Clanton and Rev. Wayne Goff will officiate and private interment will follow in New Ochlocknee Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Harvell passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 27, 2016 at his residence. Born January 9, 1930 in Beachton, Ga, he was the son of Flavous Harvell and Cynthia Wells Harvell. He was married for 61 years to the late Lea Beckham Harvell. Mr. Harvell was the co-owner of Harvell Sod and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was also a former volunteer fireman in Metcalf and member of Metcalf Methodist Church. He was a very giving and hardworking man, who found joy in his family. He began his business of Harvell Construction Company in the mid 1960’s. After many years of building, repairing, remodeling, he incorporated sod farming into the family business. He helped many people, including his family build and remodel homes. Mr. Harvell was a friend to everyone.. Survivors include, daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and James Bowen, Becky and W.A. Parrish; son and daughter-in-law Corky and Dawn Harvell; grandchildren Jonathon Clay and wife Lindsay, Nicholas Clay and wife Bowen; Christopher Clay and wife Katie, Heather Harvell, and Susannah Harvell; great grandchildren Megan Clay, Brooks Clay, Bo Clay, Rives Clay, Leelen Clay, and Ellie Kate Clay; and sister Helen Harvell Stokes.
