John Ferrell Meacham Jr, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away on November 6, 2023 in the VA Hospital in Lake City, FL. He was born on January 5, 1949 in Springfield, Il, and his love for history and reenactments led him to become a well-known supporter of Civil War history. In fact, when he married his devoted wife Brenda, their wedding had a Civil War theme, reflecting John's passion for that era.
John had a special place in his heart for dogs, particularly Schnauzers, which he and Brenda treated as cherished members of their family. Alongside his beloved wife Brenda, John lived a life rooted in faith and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His devotion to Christ led him to fellowship and uplift many others throughout his life. John and Brenda spent their last few years together at Southern Pines in Thomasville, GA.
John, known as “Sandy” to his family, is survived by his sons, John Ferrell Meacham III and Joseph Michael Meacham, who will carry on his legacy. He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. Thomas Meacham, Dr. Marc (Cathy), and Jack (Beth). He was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Meacham, parents John Ferrell Meacham, Sr. and Mary Patricia Downing Meacham.
John is lovingly known as “Papa John” to Brenda’s family. This includes Brenda’s son, Ranes Carter (Heather) and their children, Braydon, Tyson (Kandace), and Kayleigh Carter, and Brenda’s daughter, Blace Carter and her children Sky Rutland (Gage), Lacey O’Neal, and Carter Paris, and Sky’s children Ivey, Summer, Charlie, and Vallie Rutland.
Graveside services to honor John's life will be held on Saturday November 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM in Laurel Hill Cemetery on Kentucky St.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering faith will forever remain in our memories.
