John T. Miller, age 90, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 in Thomasville, GA. John T. was born in Pavo, GA on February 12, 1929, son to Osie Ella and John A. Miller. He attended Thomasville High School then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as an airplane and engine mechanic. During his service, John T. and his squadron participated in the Berlin Airlift, providing over 30,000 tons of supplies to aid in post- WWII stabilization. After military service, he spent the majority of his working career as a chief engineer at Flowers Bakery. He was an intelligent and inquisitive man and enjoyed “tinkering” with machines and electronics throughout his life. John T. and his recently departed wife Myra loved to travel, driving as far as Canada and Alaska in their “motor home”. In his later years, he found great joy in his church home at First Newark Baptist Church and in spending time with his “baby sister”, Mary Ella Lewis.
John T. is preceded in death by his wife, Myra Miller; brother, Jimmy Miller; and Betty Ann, the mother of their five children. John T. is survived by his five children, Debbie (Bob) Karcher, Sherri Meadows, Beverly (Dan) McKeever, Toby (Leslie) Miller, and Kim (Mike) Mann; step-son, Mike Roberts; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ella Lewis; special nieces, Diane Gammons, Marcia Scanlan, Rita Jones, and Teresa Miller; nephews, Tony Lewis and James Anthony Miller; and good friend, Joey Wood. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First Newark Baptist Church, 225 Russell Rd, Thomasville, GA, led by Pastor Steve Brooks. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the church prior to the service. The Miller family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Legacy Village, Kindred Hospice, Mary’s sitters (Mary and Mary) and granddaughter Kelley for their loving care.
