Graveside services for John Robert Bobby Saunders, 79, of Thomasville, formerly of Fernandina Beach, Fla., are at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in Kettle Creek Cemetery in Waycross. The Rev. Burns Willis of First United Methodist Church in Thomasville will officiate. Born May 7, 1929, in Brunswick, he was the son of the late Fred L. and Ruth Saunders. He was married to Marion Waldron Saunders who preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 1997. He was raised in Homerville and graduated from Homerville High School in 1947. He retired after 30 years in the United States Marine Corps and settled in Fernandina Beach, Fla. Survivors include his second wife, Norma Clement Saunders of Thomasville; daughters, Bonnie Eubanks and husband, Tom of Fernandina Beach, Fla. and Elaine Bushey of Alexandria, VA.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Saunders and Billy Saunders. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thomas County Food Bank, P.O. Box 975, Thomasville, GA. 31799, First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 975, Thomasville, GA. 31799, or to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 975, Thomasville, GA. 31799.
