It is with a heavy heart that the family of John Victor Spigener, III, marks his passing on December 5, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in Augusta, GA, on March 7, 1950, Vic was the son of John Victor Spigener Jr. and Letitia Walker Spigener who preceded him in death. He is the nephew of his beloved aunt and uncle, Ned and Miss Ernie Spigener Stevenson of Allendale, South Carolina.
Vic is survived by his wife, Laurie, his daughter Perrin Marchionne (A.C.), his step-daughter, Kelly Lowe (Nate Issel), two granddaughters, Lia and Addie Marchionne, his sister, Mary Perrin Barrow (Ralph), his niece and nephew, John and Libby and their children, and numerous cousins and their families.
Vic was both an English teacher and the College Advisor at Brandon Hall School in Atlanta, and more recently, in Thomasville at Brookwood School. He devoted his career to his students entrusted to his teaching and to their parents throughout the college application process. In addition to his impeccable style and sense of humor, his students will remember Mr. Spigener as being tough yet fair while preparing them for the reading and writing demands of college.
Vic graduated with an English major from Wofford College in Spartanburg and pursued graduate studies at the University of South Carolina. He was an avid reader whose interests included the Classics and Shakespeare to everything Stephen King ever wrote. He and his wife loved traveling to places close to home and as far away as Egypt. A lifelong Methodist, Vic continues to support his home church, Swallow Savannah Methodist, in Allendale. Since 1993, Vic and his wife have been members of the West Highland White Terrier Club of Greater Atlanta. They have made many friends through their support of the club and devotion to the Westie breed.
Vic's family is eternally grateful to the nurses and aides at the Back Nursing Station who lovingly cared for him at Camellia Gardens.
To honor Vic's wishes, he will be interred at Swallow Savannah Cemetery in Allendale, SC at a later date. Memorial gifts can be made to Brookwood School, 301 Cardinal Ridge Rd., Thomasville, GA 31792.
