Graveside services for John Watson Davis will be held at 2PM, Sunday, April 07, 2013 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate. Mr. Davis passed away at 90 April 01, 2013 at Camellia Gardens after a brief illness.
Mr. Davis was born in Coffee County, Ga October 17, 1922 to the late James Alfred Davis and Ruby Slater Davidson. He was married January 12, 1946 in Douglas, Ga to Rita Kirkland Davis whom remained his wife until her death. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; a veteran of World War II, where he served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaigns. He attended South Ga. College after the war. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and spending time on his son's farm in Metcalf. He lived in Thomasville for 55 years, having been an agent for the Atlantic Coast Line in Coolidge and retiring from Sears in sales, where he had many friends. He never met a stranger and will be deeply missed by his family.
He is survived by sons J.W. Richard Davis of Tallahassee, Fla., Timothy L. Davis of Metcalf, Ga.; grandchildren Jessica Davis and husband Matt Raitz of Jacksonville, Fla., Nancy Davis of Metcalf, Ga.; great grandchild Sienna Raitz of Jacksonville, Fla. and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Jack Coolidge Davis and James Hardwick Davis. The Davis family would like to extend thanks to Archbold Memorial Hospital and Camellia Gardens staff for their care and also to all friends of the family.
