Graveside services for Joseph Owen McClendon, 89, of Thomasville are 2 PM, Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. McClendon died October 19, 2008 at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro, TN. Born June 7, 1919 in Baxley, Ga, he was the son of the late James David McClendon and Lena Holdon McClendon. Mr. McClendon was a Navy veteran who served on the USS New Mexico in WWII, received a purple heart, was an active member of the local VFW and American Legion and was retired from Coats and Clarks. He was married to Beatrice Hutto McClendon, who preceded him in death. Survivors include daughter Maxine Quillen and husband Harold of Mt. Juliet, TN, daughter, Martha Ann Phinazee of Jacksonville, Fl, son, John Matthews of Thomasville, grandchildren, Jodie Pelley, Debbie Flowers, Bonnie Bray, Desiree Womack, Teresa Hamilton, several great-grandchildren, brother, James McClendon and wife Madie, sister, Mavis Jones, both of Thomasville.
