It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph "Joe" Carroll West, Jr., 90, of Thomasville, Georgia, who departed this life on July 18, 2026. Born on April 27, 1936, in Long Island City, New York, Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated member of his community.
Joe served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1960 and continued his service in the United States Army until 1968. Joe married his wife, Mary Estelle West, on July 29, 1995, in Thomasville. Their bond was a testament to love and partnership that endured through the years.
A devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Thomasville, Joe held his faith close to his heart and embodied the principles of kindness and community spirit. He will be remembered for his generous heart, warm smile, and the impact he made on the lives of those around him.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Estelle West of Thomasville; children Michael West (Kathleen) of Donalsonville and Kathryn West Davis of Thomasville; sister Mary Lou Ekstrom of Long Island, New York, and brother George West of Mesa, Arizona, followed by 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Joe is preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Mae West (Merritt), son Joseph Carroll West III, father Joseph Carroll West Sr., mother Margaret Mary West, daughter Marjorie Michelle Willis (West), sisters Carole McCormick and Mildred Montgomery.
A service will be held on July 22, 2026 at 11 am in the First Baptist Church Chapel in Thomasville. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am prior to the service. Pallbearers are D.J. Davis, Steven Taff, Xander Davis, Stephen Wilson, Ralph Paytee, and Jay Anderson. Joe will be laid to rest at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
