Joyce Guy Varnedoe Williams

Services for Joyce Guy Varnedoe Williams, 79, of Barney will be 11:00AM, Friday, December 27, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Thomasville, Ga. Rev. Kellett Thomas and Rev. Charles McDowell will officiate and the interment will be at Laurel Hill. Mrs. Williams passed away on December 23, 2013 at Southern Pines of Thomasville. Born March 12, 1934 in Hickory, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Harrell Guy and Ruth Joyce Timberlake Guy. In 1974, she was married to Zack T. Williams, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Williams was a member of the United Methodist Church and Garden Club in Barney, GA. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Thomasville Historic Society, Hannah Clarke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Quitman, GA., the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and Daughters of the Confederacy. While a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she held many positions including regent. Mrs. Williams worked for the American Cancer Society as a Field Representative. Survivors include sons Zack H. Varnedoe III and wife Patricia of Tallahassee, Fl., Stephens C. Varnedoe and wife Danielle of Columbia, S.C., Robert G. Varnedoe and wife Layne of Homerville, Ga.; grandsons Johnson Varnedoe, Lee Varnedoe, Joel Varnedoe, and Zachary Varnedoe; granddaughter Stephanie Houghton; great granddaughter Caroline Houghton; sister Myrtle Marshall and husband John, nieces and nephews Wade and Karen Marshall, Margot and Hank Houser, Ruth and Dan Kinch, Harrell Guy and Esther Guy and numerous great nieces and nephews; special friends Claire Varnedoe Thomas, Joan Lindsey Campbell, Betty Whelchel Brian, Caryl Neel Putman, and Sibyl Middleton Plumley. She was preceded in death by her first husband Major Zack Varnedoe, Jr. and brother Robert H. Guy, Sr. The family request for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1201, Albany, GA., 31702 and to the Barney United Methodist Church, 242 Church St, Barney, GA 31625.
