Julius H. Chastain, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated member of the Pavo community passed away on January 15, 2025. Julius was born on April 2, 1939, in Rome, Georgia to the late Samuel Blaine Chastain and Ruby Mae Chastain.

Julius was a devoted farmer, self-employed, and renowned for his innovative farming techniques that have left a lasting impact on the agricultural community. His passionate commitment to his craft illustrated not only his dedication to the land but also his deep love for his family, which remained at the center of his life. Julius was married to his beloved wife of 65 years as of January 3rd, Gail Chastain, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they nurtured and raised their children and grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of love and hard work.

A faithful member of Salem Baptist Church for 64 years, Julius served as a Deacon for 45 years where he taught Sunday school and served on countless committees, sharing his wisdom and love of faith. His unwavering commitment to his church community exemplified his belief in service and devotion.

Julius is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Chastain; children Pamela Kalagher of Pavo and Timothy Chastain (Amanda) of Pavo; sister Ola Pickels of Quitman; grandchildren Courtnay Perryman (James), Lindsay Strickland (Kylie), Samantha Chastain, Sarah Chastain; great-grandchildren Ayvah Grace Kelly Perryman, Asher Parker Perryman, Jolee Pearce, Devin Claiborn, Marla Strickland, and Libby Strickland.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Aaron and sister-in-law Hazel Chastain, brother-in-law Curtis Pickels, sister Ruth and brother-in-law Alonzo Milam, and son-in-law Ed Kalagher.
A service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Salem Baptist Church with Reverend Doug Thompson and Ricky Stephenson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 pm prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Salem Cemetery. The pallbearers will include James Perryman, Jeremy Poppell, Joe Stegall, Stanley Jordan, Chris Hart, Floyd Nelson, Asher Perryman, and Wilburn Owens. Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Stephenson, Shawn Miller, Jeff Reyburn, and Gerald Creel.
