Karl Robert “Bob” Willers, PhD of Thomasville, GA died September 25, 2017 in Tallahassee, Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife of
forty-nine years, Angela “Roonie” Altman Willers, his children, Ian Jay Willers of Tallahassee, FL, Nicole Suzanne Willers of Thomasville, GA, Gabriel Andrew Willers (Nicole Pearson Willers), and granddaughter,
Maris Olivia Willers, of Dade City, FL, and his siblings Virginia Lunger of Wilmington, DE and William Willers (Barbara) of Sturgeon Bay, WI.
Born on November 11, 1939, in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, he was the son of Karl Harry Willers and Virginia Brown Willers, who preceded him in death. Raised as an Army Brat, he lived and went to school in a number of
different places in this county and overseas.
Following military service in the Army, he achieved his undergraduate, masters, and PhD degrees in clinical psychology from Florida State
University, remaining an avid lifetime FSU fan – Go Noles! He was an
enthusiastic baseball fan as well, faithfully following the Kansas City
Royals and Atlanta Braves.
Dr. Willers practiced clinical psychology for 26 years in Kansas City, MO, and then for 22 years in Thomasville, GA, where he moved with his family in 1995. He was a member of the American Psychological Association, Division 39 for Psychoanalysis, and the Georgia Psychological
Association.
“Bob” embraced life, his family, his friends, and nature through his many special interests: fishing, kayaking, the environment, butterfly gardening, bird watching, hiking, jazz and classical music, and progressive political issues. He wholeheartedly cherished his four footed furry family members as well - Rosie, Sadie, Taco Tilly, Cotton and Mr. Man—all “rescue” pets, and beneficiaries of his expansive heart and deeply held values. Always
looking for the good in others, Bob was admired equally for the way he loved his wife and family which was a gentle combination of unconditional support and encouragement, progressive ideas and good sense of humor.
He was member of Temple B’Nai Israel, Thomasville, GA and Temple Israel, Tallahassee, FL.
Services will be conducted on September 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the
Hebrew Cemetery on Vine Street in Thomasville, GA, with Rabbi Jack Romberg of Temple Israel officiating. Following the service, there will be a gathering of friends and family at Bob’s favorite restaurant—The Plaza Restaurant, in Thomasville, GA.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society, Temple B’Nai Israel in Thomasville, or a charity of your choice. Guests are invited to sign the online register at www.allenfh.com .
