Services for Larry Junior Slater, 59, of Coolidge, are at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Patten Holiness Church. The Rev. Greg Player will officiate and interment is in Big Creek Cemetery. Mr. Slater died June 5 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Pallbearers are Jeffrey Bailey, Corey Outzs, Michael Bailey, Jamie English, Dewayne Slater and Terry Huckeba. Honorary pallbearers are Jay Jones and Judson Lewis. Born March 28, 1950, in Dublin, he was the son of the late Arthur Grayer Slater and Elise Rough, who survives. On June 6, 1986, in Thomasville, he married Cathy Bailey Slater who survives. Mr. Slater was a machine operator and a "jack of all trades". "The Man", For a man that had nothing but he knew what he would have, so therefore, he wasnt sad. He had a wife and kids that was his everything, so he goes on with his day, that's why he stayed. But for a man that had nothing, had it all, this is for the man I called dad. Love you dad, Larry Dewayne Slater. Other survivors include children, Bobby James English and wife, Melissa of Funston, Christina Widener and husband, Preston of Coolidge and Larry Dewayne Slater of Cairo; grandchildren, Katlyn Jade English and Bobby James English, Jr.; sister, Martha Neal of Alba, Texas; numerous other brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Inc., P.O. Box 1201, Albany, GA. 31702.
