Graveside services for Lavada Watkins Norman, 90, of Unadilla, Ga are 2:00 pm, Monday, November 29, 2010 at Laurel Hill cemetery on Florida St. Mrs. Norman passed away November 25, 2010. Born September 19, 1920 in Dothan Ala, she was the daughter of the late Walter B. Watkins and Minnie Dora McNeese Watkins. She was preceded in death by her husband. J. Earl Norman. Mrs. Norman was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville for 40 years until moving to Unadilla in 1994, where she became a member of Unadilla First Baptist Church and worked in Sunday school and women's mission. She was also a member of the John D. Gordon Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy and was Chaplin for many years. She formed the first Boy Scout troop for handicap boys. Lavada became an LPN after the age of 45, where she helped to organize the first Licensed Practical Nurses Assn locally and worked diligently to improve working conditions and improve pay scales for all LPN's locally and state wide. She supported and was a member of the Thomasville Library. But above all her activities she loved and did for her family first. Survivors include nieces, Joyce Jones, Carolyn Martin, Sandra Turner and Donna Wilkes; nephew, Byron Brooks. She was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond Watkins and Lamar Watkins; sister, Mildred Watkins Ventry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International, P.O.
