Mrs. Halstead was born in Mitchell County GA on June 20, 1937 to the late Clarence Godwin and Fannie Pollock Godwin Brinson. She married the love of her life, Mack Arthur Halstead on January 9, 1952 in Thomasville, GA. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Fort Dix, New Jersey while Mack served in the Army. After his service was completed in 1955, they returned to Thomasville where they happily resided, raised their daughters, and worked, until his death in 1998.

Throughout her life, her extended family grew to include her church family, neighbors, and finally, her friends and staff at Southern Pines.
Mrs. Halstead is survived by her daughters Karyl H. Lauder (Jack), Cheryl H. Hay (Jim), and Denise H. French (Jeffrey), her grandchildren, Bryce Lauder (Tara), Beau Hay, Jennifer Hay, Georgiana French, and Jonah French. She is also survived by her brothers Armon Brinson (Phyllis), Ike Godwin (Bonnie), Ted Godwin (Rose), and Mark Godwin (Sheila), a sister Betty Sue Godwin Jones, sister-in laws Danice Brinson, Joanne Godwin and Lynda Adams, and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, stepparents Armon Brinson, Sr and Susie Bell Adams Godwin, husband, and brothers Bill Brinson, Jerry Godwin, and Bill Adams.
