Lavone Lewis

Services for Lavone Lewis, 82 of Thomasville will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 30, 2015 at First Newark Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Brooks and Rev. Mike Keown will officiate and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Lewis passed away January 27, 2015 at his residence. Born May 4, 1932 in Ochlocknee, he was the son of the late Purvis Lewis and Birdie Mae Singletary Lewis. On September 27, 1952 he married Mary Ella Miller Lewis who survives. Mr. Lewis was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of First Newark Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He worked at North American Finance Company for a while before joining his father at Lewis Produce where he served as owner and manager for 47 years. Other survivors include his children, Tony Lewis and wife Cindy, Diane Gammons and husband Mike and Marcia Scanlan and husband Steve all of Thomasville; grandchildren, Jason & Brandi Lewis, Kristy & Brad Rhoden, Brad & Haley Lewis, Dana & Chris King, Bridgett & Conner Bowen, Lauren Lewis and Megan Lewis and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Donnie Lewis and Emory Lee Lewis. Donations may be made in Mr. Lewis’ honor to First Newark Baptist Church, 225 Russell Rd, Thomasville, Ga 31757.
