Lee Newsome

June 22, 1920 — November 18, 2015

Homer Lee Newsome, son of Pauline Towns and John Newsome, passed away on 11/18/2015 after an extended illness. He was 95. He had a happy, productive life. He graduated as an industrial engineer from Georgia Tech. He worked with the Central of Georgia Railroad, Corp of Engineers, and retired from FEMA. He served his country in WWII and the Korean conflict as a navigator in the Army Air Force. This past Veteran’s day he attended a ceremony at Southern Pines where he was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and a Pin in recognition for his service. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Young at Heart choir prior to his illness. He was active in his community as a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club. He was a “Southern Gentleman” that cared for friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his three wives: Frances Rice (mother of his two children), Inez Bozeman, and Mae Berry. He is survived by his son Daniel, daughter Carole, and brother, Spencer; his grandsons: Trey, Garrett, and Chason along with numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members through marriage. He will be missed by all. There will be a visitation at Allen & Allen Funeral Home on Friday from 5-7 pm. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 2 pm in the First Baptist Chapel, followed by internment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
