Mrs. Leila Pauline Singletary, 90, passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital after a short illness. A native of Thomasville, she was a charter member of Thomasville Landmarks, Inc. and a member of the Thomas County Historial Society, Pilot Club of Thomasville and the Thomasville Arts Guild. Mrs. Singletary was the Office Manager for the City of Thomasville Water and Light Department until her retirement. In later years she was the private secretary for Mrs. Pansy Poe of Pebble Hill Planation until Mrs. Poe's death. Mrs. Singletary was a devoted supporter of the athletic and performing arts programs at Brookwood School where her grandchildren were enrolled. In 1984 Brookwood honored her with a "12th Man Award" for her multiple year run of attendance at virtually every single home and away football and basketball game. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ross Singletary, of Coral Gables, Fl. who was Vice President of the Art Cement Paint Manufacturing Company, founded by his father in 1917. Her husband died in 1943 while serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. She and her husband lived in Havana, Cuba during 1940-41. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael R. Singletary and Carol H. Singletary of Thomasville; grandchildren, William Ross Singletary II and Sally H. Singletary of Atlanta and Gordon Lee Singletary of Wilmington, North Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Forrest Stanley Singletary, William Ross Singletary III, Sophia Rushton Singletary, Mary Preston Singletary and Wyatt Hasty Singletary. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Julia B. Sorrell of Monroe, Louisiana and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Singletary was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church of Thomasville. Visitation will be at the Parish Hall of All Saints' from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, February 21st. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22nd at All Saints' Episcopal Church. Memorials should be made to Thomasville Landmarks Inc. 312 N.
