Graveside services for Lena Harrell Clark are to be held at 11 a.m. on January 03, 2012 on Texas Street in Laurel Hill Cemetery, the Reverend Mr. Burns Willis officiating. Mrs. Clark, a resident of Hawthorne Inn, died on December 29 at the St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, SC. She was born February 12, 1926 in Winter Park, FL while her parents, the late Lonnie Morgan Harrell and Annelle Bellflower, were visiting there. Her family returned to Thomasville shortly after her birth. She was reared and lived in Thomasville for 45 years before moving to Athens and later to Atlanta. She and her husband, Dr. Robert W. Clark, retired to Thomasville in 1988. Since then they have lived in Canton, GA and Greenville, SC. A graduate of Thomasville high school, Class of 1944, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the Senior Class, Business Manager of the Year Book, and a member of the Commercial Club. Mrs. Clark completed college courses at the University of Georgia Extension Center, banking and accounting courses, American Savings and Loan Institute courses and a Real Estate course. She held a Georgia Real Estate Sales License. Upon graduation from high school, she was employed as Secretary to the President and Vice-President of Commercial Bank, Thomasville, and later, as First Teller, organized and managed the Bank Installment Loan Department for five years. In 1949, Mrs. Clark became part owner and manager of an automotive parts company, Jobber Factory Warehouse in Thomasville and Parts & Supply in Tallahassee until 1971. After working for a year as Administrative Assistant to the Head of the Division of Vocational Education in the College of Education at the University of Georgia, she became Savings Counselor and Assistant Manager in charge of Teller Operations with the Decatur Federal Savings & Loan Association in Decatur, GA. Upon receiving her Georgia Real Estate License, she became a Realtor in the Atlanta area. For ten years she managed the Les Jardins Garden Apartment Complex in Atlanta which consisted of 152 units. Upon returning to Thomasville in 1987, she continued her career as an Associate Agent with Talbot Nunnally and Associates Real Estate Agency until retirement.
Mrs. Clark held memberships in numerous service organizations including the Junior Woman's Club, Garden Clubs of America and the YMCA. She held various offices in the PTA, Thomasville First United Methodist Church, the Church Choir and the Sue McTier Sunday School Class. For many years she worked with the Annual Thomasville Rose Show, winning several First Place ribbons for her floral exhibits. Mrs. Clark was, also, an honorary member of the Stetson University Alumni Board where Robert was an active member. Most of all, Lena was an outstanding and loving grandmother Mamama to her many children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert W. Clark, daughter, Barbara Clark Moore, Thomasville; grandson Garrett Watson Moore spouse, Amanda "Mandy" Shields Moore Boca Raton, FL; Justin Clark Moore, who preceded her in death, granddaughter, Victoria Anne Moore spouse James Michael Kleitz and great grandson, Finn Whistler Kleitz, Atlanta. Lena's daughter Susan Elena Clark Waite spouse, Dr. Powell Dean Waite and granddaughter Ashley Elena Waite, Bangalore, India. Grandson Clark Patrick Waite spouse Heather Danielle Potts Waite Greenville, SC. Mrs. Clark's step-grandson Powell Dean Waite, II spouse Nicole Marie Miller Waite and step-great grandson Powell Dean Waite, III, live in Mobile, AL. Her step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Waite Mann spouse Jacob Chapman Mann, Sr. are parents of step-great grandsons Jacob Chapman Mann, Jr., Hamilton McCrady Mann and Clifton Bates Mann, Greenville, SC. Mrs. Clark had a stepson, Robert Douglas Clark, who preceded her in death. Her step-granddaughter, Betty Jean B.J. Clark and step-great grandson, King John Jackson "Jack" Miller IV, reside in Cantonment, FL. In addition, she has a step-daughter, Susan Lynn Clark and her partner, Donna Beck, Weaverville, NC, a step-son Eric Wesley Clark, Orlando, FL, a step-granddaughter Erica Ashley Clark Reagan and step-great grandsons, Harrison Bryan Miller, Skyler Zane Hasty and step-great granddaughter, Emily Renee Reagan, of Boston, GA. A Step-grandson Christopher Charles Clark spouse Rebecca Lynn Fielding Clark step-great granddaughters, Alyssa Aly Nicole Clark and Olivia Faith Clark reside in Thomasville. Step-grandson, Joshua Lloyd Clark lives in Largo, FL. Step-granddaughter Lindsay Elizabeth Clark Thornton spouse Thomas Ray Thornton and step-great grandson, Tyler Harris Thornton, live in Ellijay. Mrs. Clark's brother, Charles Morgan Harrell, half-brothers Jerry Johnson and Richard Lamar "Sonny" Johnson preceded her in death. Half-sister Patricia MacFarlane Johnson, niece Dawn, nephews Barry and Matt MacFarlane, reside in Riverview, FL and half-sister Allie Sue Johnson is a native of Thomasville. Expressions of appreciation for their care of Mrs. Clark go to the administration and staff of the Suites of Woodleaf, Thomasville, GA, The Terrace in Canton, GA and to the Hawthorne Inn in Greenville, SC.
