Leo Wallace Palmer, 90, life long resident of Thomas County, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2017. Leo had an amazing business mind and used his talents to help many people. He was born in Thomas County, Georgia on September 6, 1926 to Arthur Lee Melton and Mattie Stanaland Palmer. A veteran of World War II, Leo served in the Pacific Theater with the United States Army. After his military service, he graduated from Emory Jr. College and received his B.A. degree from Valdosta State College. On December 27, 1951, he married Carolyn Mae Carlton of Thomas County, Georgia. Upon graduating from Valdosta State College, the couple moved back to Thomasville where Leo began his finance career. For thirty years he worked with C.I.T. and Motor Contract. In 1973, he started his own finance company, Motor Finance, Inc. At the age of 84. he retired. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, three daughters and sons-in-law. Brenda and Dennis Lee, Debbie and Steve SanFratello, Carol and Bruce Evans. Grandchildren, James and Meredith Haslam, Palmer and Foster Smith, Brett and Tracy SanFratello, Jennifer and Marc Mansel, Jenny Evans and Wilkes Evans. Great Grandchildren, Ann and Charles Smith, Palmer and Patton Haslam, Sydney and Kylie SanFratello, Max Mansel and Maddox White. Leo was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Chruch, Thomasville, Georgia where he served on the vestry. Leo was also a member of The Thomasville Kiwanis Club, where he enjoyed many years of service. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 9th at 11:00 am in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Thomasville, Georgia, officiated by The Reverend Scott Mithen.
