Kenny Thompson

Kenneth "Kenny" Thompson passed on to be with his Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday, August 5, 2026, just 20 days shy of his 79th birthday. Born on August 25, 1947, in Montezuma, GA, Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Pansy Roland Thompson and Eli Thompson of Pinehurst, GA.

Raised on the family farm by his dad's side, Kenny learned at an early age to value hard work and commitment to whatever he put his hand to, He grew up in a close community of aunts, uncles, and cousins who were almost like siblings. After graduating from Vienna High School (1965), Kenny studied at ABAC in Tifton and received an associate degree in agriculture. He also proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1968 - 1974. After college, Kenny returned to the farm and married his sweetheart Cathy Allen. He built a home on the farm, and he and Cathy filled it with 3 wonderful children over the next few years. Kenny also worked for the Georgia Forestry Commission for 29 years.

From a young child Kenny was a member of Byromville United Methodist Church where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Council (6 yrs.), Sunday School superintendent (10 yrs.), Lay Leader (4 Yrs.), President of United Methodist Men. He also served as Chairman of Trustees at Dooly Campground near Vienna GA. In addition, he received the Excellence Award for outstanding service with the GA Forestry Commission (Eagle Award) 2010.

Then in 2016 Kenny (and Cathy) moved to Thomasville, GA, to be near family. There they established a beautiful home and Kenny served as deacon at the First Baptist Church where he enjoyed many Bible studies and meeting with his friends. Kenny never met a stranger and always looked for the best in everyone. He cherished his entire family and kept the annual Thompson family reunion going until he moved in 2016. Sometimes his family called him "slick" or "Cuz" and his swimming pool on the farm was always open to family - especially after family reunions. His smile was always genuine, his love was faithful and true, and Kenny had a great capacity to forgive.

Kenny was always willing and ready to help anyone he could. He was a quiet man who enjoyed deer, dove, and quail hunting, and watching the Braves from his favorite chair. His children called him "daddy" and his grandchildren lovingly called him "Papa" and he leaves a beautiful spiritual legacy for them.

Kenny is survived by his wife Cathy, of 58 years, their three children -Tammy (Johnny) Morgan, Kevin Thompson, and Kelly (Earl) McCabe; a sister Paula T. Pece, a nephew, Paul (Trina) Bush; grandchildren - Patrick, Payton, Pierce Morgan; Katie T. (Thomas) Ehlers, Kristina Thompson; Eli, Ethan, Karly McCabe. These folks were his life and most precious blessings.

Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Thomasville on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 10 AM, providing an opportunity for friends and family to come together in remembrance. A service will follow at 11 AM, celebrating Kenny's life and the joy he brought to all who knew him. Interment will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery following the service, where Kenny will be laid to rest.
