Lera Sarah Fielding

November 16, 1924 — December 26, 2022

Lera Sarah Fielding, age 98, of Thomasville passed away on 12/26/2022 at home peacefully during her sleep surrounded by family. She was born in Ochlocknee Georgia on November 16, 1924, to the late Perry L. Benton and Sarah Elizabeth Ponder Benton. She was the third born in a family of ten. Her surviving siblings are Maddie McClendon, Edward Benton, Jimmy Benton, and Ronnie Benton all of Thomasville, GA. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Myrtle Griffin, Vera Palmer, Edna Palmer, Jeanette Tucker, and Donald Benton.
She was married to the late Arthur Leon Fielding on July 22, 1948. Lera gave up her Nursing career at Archbold to raise her two children, Sandra and Glenn. She was an independent, caring person and always put the needs of others ahead of hers. She taught her children the golden rule that she lived by from the Gospel of Matthew 7:12 of treating others as you would want to be treated. Her family was especially important to her. She loved being a daughter in a large family, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and lately a great-grandmother. She enjoyed sitting on the porch and reading the newspaper and when she saw any article or picture of her extended family she would cut out and save it in her scrapbook. She loved to work in her garden and canning the surplus vegetables. Collard greens and chicken dressing were her special dishes everyone wanted her to bring to family dinners. Lera's relationship with God and attending church was always important to her. She was a member of Northwoods Church of God for many years.
Other survivors include daughter Sandra Faye Molton of Thomasville; son Glenn Arthur Fielding and wife Marie of Thomasville; grandchildren Robert (Laura) Harris, Debra (Nathan) Brinson, Preston (Sandy) Fielding, Joshua (Nikki) Fielding, Heather (Justin) Congdon, and Justin (Kendall) Fielding; sixteen great-grandchildren.
Services for Lera Sarah Fielding will be held Thursday 29th at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. Her family will receive friends and family at 2-3 PM followed by the service at 3 PM. A private graveside burial will be held at Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church Cemetery after the service.
