Lewis Sellers

Graveside services for Lewis Sellers, 83, of Thomasville are 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Ala. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Craig Little and Deacon Henry Hines of Calvary Baptist Church in Eufaula, Alabama. Mr. Sellers died at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Moultrie, Georgia, after complications from pneumonia. Mr. Sellers was born in Daviston, Tallapoosa County, Alabama, and was preceded in death by his parents, William Andrews Sellers and Mattie Genova McDonald, and brothers Archie Sellers and W.A. Sellers. Mr. Sellers was a veteran of the U.S.Army and served in the Phillipines during and after the Second World War. Mr. Sellers ended his service with 23 years as a "Seabee" in the U. S. Navy Reserve. In 1990, Mr. Sellers retired with 42 years and 11 months from Alabama Power Company, Eufaula, Alabama, and had been past president of the Alabama International Bureau of Electrical Workers Union. In the early nineteen sixties, Mr. Sellers accompanied his cousin Tom Sellers as a reporter for the Columbus Ledger Enquirer to cover the Cuban Revolution. Mr. Sellers attended the University of Georgia Off-Campus Center in Columbus where he studied business and later studied engineering in the Navy. Mr. Sellers was an entrepreneur with interests in antique cars, including his Mercedes-Benz collection, real estate, and the stock market. His hobbies included gardening and day trading. After retiring from the Power Company, Mr. Sellers moved from Eufaula to Thomasville, Georgia to be near his beloved daughter, Shelba. He was a member of Pineland Baptist Church in Thomasville, Georgia and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church, Eufaula, Alabama. And Smiths Station Baptist Church, Smiths Station. Mr. Sellers is survived by his beautiful wife of 49 years, Marjorie Sands Sellers, his daughter, Shelba Sellers- Mitchell, and son-in-law, Mark Mitchell, all of Thomasville. Mr. And Mrs. Sellers celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on Valentines Day, Monday February 14, 2011 before Mr. Sellers died at sunrise on Tuesday, February 15th.Other survivors include brother, Harold Sellers, sister-in-law, Peggy Sellers, of Opelika, sister, Doris Affolter, Columbus, sister Sara Milner, Donalsonville. Family friends and caregivers include Tamara Ross, Brittany Kaling, Stephanie Small, and Margie Guyton.
