Linwood Leighton Workman

Linwood Leighton Workman, 97, of Thomasville, Ga. passed away on January 23, 2014 under the tender care of the staff at Southern Pines Senior Residence Facility and Hospice of Southwest Georgia. He was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on June 23, 1916, to Linwood and Mary Workman. He was a long time resident of Massachusetts, however his heart was in Maine where he was a summer resident on Pemaquid Trail in New Harbor, Maine, for more than 35 years. He moved to Thomasville 12 years ago to be closer to his family. Linwood graduated from Framingham High School in 1935, Colby College in Waterville, Maine, in 1940, and earned a Masters Degree from Boston University in 1953. He was a high school Mathematics teacher for 38 years at Hopedale High School and Shrewsbury High School in Massachusetts. Linwood was predeceased by a brother Edmund, and his loving wife of 70 years, Joanna. He is survived by his sons John (Ginnie Baker) of Bellville, Ohio, Philip (Susan) of Thomasville, grandchildren Panda and Tracy of California, Heather (Parks) of Tallahassee, Holly (Jake) of Atlanta, great-grand children Robbie, Andy, McKinley, Sada and Griffen and several nieces and nephews. Other than enjoying his family and teaching, he made many friends singing in his church choir and local choral societies where ever he lived in Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, and Georgia. A life-long fitness buff, Linwood completed the Rose City 5K walk at age 87, and the Tallahassee Turkey Trot 1 mile walk at age 93. Linwood will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and former students. Graveside services will be at a later date in New Harbor, Maine.
