Services for Lou P. Battley, 93, of Thomasville will be held at 11 AM, Monday, October 1, 2018 at First Baptist Church Chapel. Rev. Marty Carnes will officiate and interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. On September 27, 2018 Heaven gained a new Angel. Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away at Archbold Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Ina Lou Weaver on October 13, 1924 to Nellie Barnes Weaver and Kelly Weaver in Alma, Ga. She grew up on the family farm in Barwick. She married Henry Edgar Pierson, Jr. on May 5, 1944. He passed away April 29, 1975. She then married M.M. Battley of Cairo on July 15, 1978. He passed away January 4, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. She is survived by daughters Patricia Ann Tucker of Jesup and Louise P. Yale of Thomasville; grandchildren, LuAnn Poppell and husband Kevin and Amy Edwards and husband OJ, Emma Yale and Ben Peirce, Pierson Yale and Maison Watson and Summer Lairsey; great-grandchildren, Maggie & Eli Hayes, Mallorie Poppell & Bradley Phillips, Alexis and Brandon Westberry and Austin Edwards; great-great granddaughter, Emily Westberry. Lou attended Georgia Southwestern College, Georgia State College for Women and Florida State University and obtained her teaching degree. She was an educator in the Grady County and Brooks County School Systems. She taught for 30 years in the Thomasville City School System, where she touched many lives. Lou loved her family and loved working in her yard. She was a member of the Garden Club. She would spend time taking flowers from her yard and sharing with friends. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Her family would like to thank her extended family at Plantation Manor who took such great care of her over the last 3 years. We would also like to thank the nurses on the 5th floor for loving and caring for her until the very end. The family will receive friends 3-5pm, Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
