Services for Lura Mary Gibson Stephens, 77, of Pavo, are at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. Daniel E. Watson, Sr. will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are R.T. Carson, Tony Bailey, Peter Lang, Daniel Watson, Jr., Michael Clapper and Chris Cooper. Mrs. Stephens died June 23 in Brooks County. Born, May 19, 1932, in Murphy, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Harvey W. and Mamie Rose Gibson. In Dec. of 1982, in Thomasville, she married George H. Stephens, Sr., who preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters, Mary Gail Watson and husband, Daniel of Thomasville and Helen L. Lang and husband, Peter of Coolidge; grandchildren, Daniel E. Watson, Jr. of Thomasville, Brandi L. Clapper and husband, Mike of Thomasville, Tony Bailey and wife, Jennifer of Coolidge and Kristin Cooper and husband, Chris of Pavo; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Jade Bailey who preceded her in death in 2001, Christopher Cooper, Jr., Summer Cooper and Dylan Bailey; sisters, Frances Wood and husband, Tom of Thomasville, Shirley Bearden and husband, Rell of Cairo and Thelma Meyers and husband, Reid of St. Augustine, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Trammel, Hazel Hasty and Lois Hawkins; and a brother, Elmer Gibson.
