Graveside services for Luther Edison Craven, 92 of Cairo, will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cairo. Mr. Craven passed away November 20, 2018 at Archbold Hospital. Born October 17, 1926 in Cairo, he was the son of the late Richard Ivey Craven and Roxie Viola Scroggins Craven. He was married to Elizabeth Harvell Craven who survives. His profession was his life’s passion as he built many of the main roads and highways in and around Thomas and Grady County. He was especially proud of helping turn highway 84 from dirt to a paved road. He spent 64 years in a job he loved, working a bull dozier and other heavy equipment for the City of Cairo and other major construction companies ending his career with Sampson Excavating, when he was 80. He is survived by his children, Teddy Craven and wife Kathie of Thomasville, Brenda Craven Lambert of Little Rock, Ark, Ricky Craven of Dothan Alabama, Eddie Craven of Thomasville, Carol Craven Brettel of Thomasville, Marty Craven Creel of Coolidge, Machelle Craven Luke of Thomasville, Billy Stephens Jr, of Whigham, Shirley Stephens Pyles of Cairo, Patricia Stephens Trotman, of Cairo, Nancy Stephens Hester of Whigham, Michael Stephens of Cairo, Johnny Stephens of Cairo, Gloria Stephens Gainous of Cairo and Angel Stephens Husbands of Tallahassee; 33 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was instrumental in raising many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved them dearly. He was preceded by brothers, Howard Craven, Albert Craven, Lynn Craven and sister, Marie Craven Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon’s International, PO Box 2361, Thomasville, Ga 31799.
