A funeral mass for M. James Bell Jr., 87 of Evanston, Ill was held 9 AM Monday, July 21, 2008 at St. Mary Church in Evanston. Interment was at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, Ill. A memorial service was held simultaneously with the service in Ill, at the home of Billy Joe & Dot Lewis in Thomasville. Dot, Billy Joe and Josh Lewis had the eulogy. Bobby Hutchinson, Music Director of Barnetts Creek Church, Freddie Vaughn Chaplain of Barnetts Creek V.F.D. and Dr. Robert Thourson conducted the service with forty friends and relatives in attendance. Mr. Bell died July 16, 2008. Born April 23, 1921 in Charlotte, Nc, he was the son of the late M. James Bell Sr. and Ethel Thornburg Bell. He grew up in Charlotte and Kings Mountain, Nc. He entered the Army in 1942 and was captain in the 78th Lightening Division of the infantry stationed in Holland and Germany. Jim participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was among the first troops to cross the Rhine River into Germany. Upon release from the Army in 1946 he enrolled at Furman University in Greenville, Sc and graduated with a business degree. He later earned an MBA from the University of Chicago. He was Senior Vice President of S&C Electric Company of Chicago and was a member of the S&C Board of Directors from 1975 through 2001. Jim was the beloved husband for 34 years of Vilma Morias Bell, who survives. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was the dear brother of Dorothy Bell Lewis of Thomasville.
