Mabel Marshall
Mabel Marshall, 87, of Thomasville completed her journey in this life October 7, 2008 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. No funeral services will be held. A private memorial service for the family will take place in the future. Born in Waynesville, NC, on October 20, 1920, she was the youngest of seven children. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was married to Albert E. Marshall who preceded her in death. Mrs. Marshall moved to Thomas County in 1995 after the death of her husband of over 50 years. She has lived a quiet life in Boston ever since with her youngest son, Edward and daughter-in-law, Barbara. Prior to that, she lived in Columbus, moving there in 1961, actively attending the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She is a retired secretary, having been employed many years at Kiralfy's Women's Apparel in Columbus. Before 1961 the family lived in Jacksonville, Fla. and in North Carolina. Mrs. Marshall was a civilian employee of the Department of Defense during WWII, working at Camp Butner in Durham NC where she met her future husband. They were married shortly before he shipped out to participate in the D-Day landing in 1944. Mrs. Marshall was a survivor of both Breast Cancer and Lung Cancer. She had an active and interesting life and will be missed by those who knew and love her. A Christian woman, she is now in the hands of God. Survivors include sons, Ross Marshall and wife, Debbie of Columbus and Edward Marshall and wife, Barbara of Boston; grandchildren, Amanda Warren Marshall of Kissimmee, Fla., Jonathan Marshall of Tallahassee, Fla., Patricia Barberi, Dee Cushing, Janie Vinson all living in or around Columbus, Ross Marshall Junior of Tampa, Michelle Dixon of Corpus Christi, Texas and Amber Speer of San Diego, California as well as several great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and six brothers and sisters. In lieu of flower memorial may be made to any cancer research or support group.
