Graveside services for Madie Dekle Whiddon Davis of McDonough, GA., formerly of Thomasville are at 4:00PM on Monday, January 19, 2004 at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Thirteenth Street. Mrs. Davis passed away Saturday, January 17, 2004. Born in 1919 in Meigs, GA., to the late George Edward and Melvie Whigham. She was married Homer Lee Whiddon who preceded her in death. After her husband?s death in 1948, Madie raised her three children alone. She remained in Thomasville until 1956 and then moved to the Atlanta Area. Madie was a very talented seamstress and utilized these talents for many years working for various clothing manufacturers. Then, while in her fifties, Madie went back to school and received her LPN license and worked in area hospitals and nursing homes until her retirement. She had resided at the Cornerstone Rehabilitation Center in McDonough, GA for the past six years. Madie was a remarkable woman whose love, strength and guidance enabled her to raise her children alone and as a grandmother, she enjoyed playing, baking, sewing and spending time with all her grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Carroll Dekle of Waycross, GA.; children, Edward and Carole Whiddon of Jonesboro, Ga., Bobby and Eloise Whiddon of McDonough, Ga. and Helen Whiddon Burns of Lawrenceville, GA; 11 Grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
