Mamie Mcafee Merrit

Mamie McAfee Merritt, age 73, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Piedmont Midtown Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M. EDT, Saturday, April 15, 2023 in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, Georgia 31907, followed by a reception for family and friends in the Mill Room. Mamie was born to the late John Ashley McAfee and Levonia Watford McAfee on September 23, 1949 in Thomasville, Georgia. Mamie attended high school in Panama City and loved returning to visit. She always took pride in working hard and a job well done. Anyone who knew Mamie knew she was a loyal University of Alabama fan. Most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren without limits. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles Barnes, brother Wesley Barnes, grandson Kenny Wayne Yelton Jr. and great-grandson Cayden Swanson. Survivors include sister Barbara Southerland, sister Juanita Thompson, sister-in-law Emma Barnes, sister-in-law Barbara Barnes, Daughter Danette Johnson, son Danny Jeter Jr. (Nari), son Robert Jeter, daughter Carrie Thomas (Art), son Michael Jeter, 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
