Mamie Massey Collins
Services for Mamie Massey Collins, 94, of Thomasville, are at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2007, at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Lee Waller and Rev. Alfred Carver will officiate and interment is in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Collins died September 12 at Golden Living Center. Born April 11, 1913, in Barwick, she was the daughter of the late Wiley Lee and Eunice Malatha Massey. Mrs. Collins was married to Emory M. Collins on June 26, 1934 in Ozell. They celebrated 53 years of marriage prior to his death in 1988. In the years prior to retirement she worked in food service at a hospital and in schools while living in South Florida. She was one of the first residents of Jefferson Place in downtown Thomasville and she lived there until it closed. One of her greatest joys was being actively involved with the Jefferson Jivers musical group and she loved to play Bingo. She was a member of Dawson Street Baptist Church and was actively involved in the bible study Rev. Carver led each Sunday for the residents there. She loved people and tried to help them as she was able. Plantation Manor became her home where she lived until her health decline required her to move to Golden Living Center. She was loved by many in all these homes. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Sherwood and DeeDee Collins of Tifton; daughter, Jacqueline Lagerman of Pace, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Norman Parrish of Thomasville and Donna and Tim Drake of Wooster, Ohio; grandchildren, Lee Collins, Jay Collins, Kelly Collins, Christy Williams, Norma Rogers, Paula Maxwell, Pam Monk, Dawn Wood, Mara Thibodeau, Ginny Miller, Diane O?Neal, Bert O?Neal, Brian O?Neal, Bruce O?Neal, Joy O?Neal, Brenda Orso, Eddie Lagerman, Jennifer Lagerman, Damon Drake, Derek Drake, Dusty Drake and their families; 35 great-grandchildren; 15 great great-grandchildren; brother Grady Massey of Albany; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Audrey Massey and Robert Massey and special friends, Lucretia Kitchens and Dean LeMack.
