Funeral services for Marceille McEver Collins, 93 of Thomasville will be held at 11:00am, Monday, July 31, 2023 at Dawson Street Methodist Church. Rev. Buddy Watley and Bill Piland will officiate and interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Collins passed away July 28, 2023 at Legacy Village. She was born September 13, 1929 in Thomasville to the late Joe B & Eva Bateman McEver of Thomasville. She was married to L.C. Collins of Cairo on September 23, 1950 in Reno, NV. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 23, 2000 and was married 51 years before his death on October 27, 2001. She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1947and was an avid fan and supporter of the Thomasville Bulldogs. She was on softball & bowling teams while a member of Sigma Beta Club. She was a lab technician and assistant to Dr. Marvin B. Wine & Dr. Howard Cheshire for 9 years and to Dr. M.G. Middleton for 7 years and Dr. Joe Rawlings for 6 years. She retired from the medical field to become partner in business with her husband in 1973. They owned and operated Collins Pecan Warehouse in Thomasville and E. Collins Farms in Williston, Florida; and she continued to work with her son in the pecan business after her husbands death. Mrs. Collins was one of the first of two women to be elected to the Board of Directors of the Thomasville Touchdown Club & volunteered to assist doctors with the annual sports physicals for Thomasville, Thomas County and Brookwood Schools for many years. She was a member of Bold Springs Methodist church where she served on several committees. She later retuned to Dawson Street Methodist Church where she raised her children and she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir there. She is survived by son, Joseph Lee Collins and wife Rita and daughter, Linda Collins Chastain and husband Terry, all of Thomasville; grandchildren, Blake Malcom of Philadelphia, PA., Nikki Collins Duncan and husband Thom of Thomasville, Stephanie Collins Moon of Thomasville, Ashley Chastain Barrow and husband Choppy of Panama City, Fl and Terry James Chastain and wife Erin of Donalsville; great-grandchildren, Aston Moon, Carson Moon, Brett Ashley Duncan, Jude Duncan, Terry James Chastain, III Joseph Chastain, Johnny Chastain, Savannah Barrow and Sydney Barrow. And a host of other "grandchildren" who thought of her & called her Gran. Nephews Mike McEver and wife Nellie of Melbourne, Fl., Scott McEver and wife Trish of Port Orange, Fl and Buck McEver of Mims, Fl; her devoted caregivers and all that called her Mama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe & Eva McEver; brother Donald McEver. The family will receive friends 10-11 am, before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family wishes to follow in our matriarch’s compassionate example by supporting our community through kindness and generosity.
