Services for Margaret Friend Stewart of Thomasville are at 2:30PM on Thursday, December 19, 2002 at First Presbyterian Church where she was a member. Rev. Dr. William P. Seel will officiate with interment in Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee, Fl. at 4:00PM on Thursday. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Mrs. Stewart died tragically in a automobile accident on December 15, 2002. Born October 29, 1913 in Petersburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert MacIlwaine and Bessie Meade Patterson Friend. On October 29, 1942 in Petersburg, VA., she was married to the late William David Stewart, Sr. She served the Lord Jesus Christ faithfully as a pastor's wife. She graduated from Agnes Scott College and was a member of her Sunday School Circle, DAR, UDC, Garden Club, and was active in the Republician Party. Mrs. Stewart served as a docent for the Governor's Mansion in Florida and for the Thomas County Historical Society. She also served as an aide in the Florida House of Representatives. She faithfully served with her husband in pastorates in South Carolinia and Bainbridge, GA. In 1954, Rev. and Mrs. Stewart founded Westminister Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee. Survivors include daughter & son-in-law, Beverley & Jim Armstrong of Houston Texas, daughter, Mary Friend Shepard of Thomasville, son & daughter-in-law, William David, Jr., & Nancy Stewart of Friendswood, TX., sister, Bessie Meade Drake of Petersburg, VA., grandchildren, Kimberley Friend Shepard, Lindsay Armstrong, Stewart Armstrong, Aaron Armstrong, Micah Armstrong, Robert Stewart, William D. Stewart, III & Matthew Stewart; great grandchild, Logan Armstrong Douglas. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 225 E. Jackson St., Thomasville, GA. 31792. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8PM on Wednesday. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
