Services for Margaret Hardy Newton, 86, of Thomasville will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 27, 2014 at First Baptist Church Chapel. Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Newton passed away Wednesday, June 25 at Archbold Hospital. Born August 9, 1927 in Quitman, she was the daughter of the late Edward Cleveland Hardy and Tommie Ramsey Hardy. She was married to Grover Cleveland Newton who preceded her in death. Mrs. Newton was the valedictorian of Quitman High school. After high school, she attended Georgia Women’s College and The University of Georgia, where she earned her degree in Education. She was a retired school teacher from Thomasville High School and was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville and former member of First Baptist Church of Adel. She taught Sunday school for many years at both churches. She enjoyed worldwide traveling with her husband and their numerous friends. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Steve Brett of Tifton, Diane and Glenn Beard of Adel, grandchildren, Leslie and Trey Addison, Lindsey and Waylon Franks, Stephen E. Brett, Jr., Meredith Margaret Beard and Emily Rebecca Beard. The family will receive friends 10-11 am before the service at the church chapel.
