Marie H. Bennett

Funeral services for Marie H. Bennett, 85, of Thomasville, Ga, will be 11:00AM, Friday, December 22, 2017 at Dawson Street Baptist Church. Rev. Lee Waller will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Marie went to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 19, at home surrounded by her family. Born July 27, 1932 in Pavo, Ga, she was the daughter of Staten and Dallas Herndon. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Randall Herndon and Maurice Herndon. Marie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Vernon Bennett; her daughter Dawn Snider (Jerry), her son Tim Bennett and her granddaughter Hannah Bush (Blake). Marie also has two surviving brothers, Gerald Herndon (Peggy) of Valdosta and Wayne Herndon (Joyce) of Cairo. Marie graduated from the Crawford W. Long School of Nursing in 1953. She married Vernon Bennett in 1957, and they lived in Macon and Albany where Marie worked as a nurse. Marie and Vernon then moved to Thomasville, where Marie went to work at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Marie retired from Archbold in 1994, after 25 years of service and when she retired, she was the Director of Surgical nurses. Marie then went on to work part time at Archbold until 2012. Marie loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. Marie was a member of Dawson Street Baptist Church and she loved attending her Victory Sunday School class. She loved playing bridge with her bridge buddies and loved going to the beach and walking. The family is consoled by the fact that Marie is now in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dawson Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 1025 N. Dawson St., Thomasville, GA 31792 or the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C., 20090 or any dementia related cause. The family could not have gone through this without Dr. Fenlon and the McIntosh Clinic, Home Instead Senior Care and Bethany Hospice.
