Marjorie Sands Sellers passed away Saturday, November, 18th in Tallahassee, Florida, after an extended illness. She was born in Bartletts Ferry, Alabama, and was the daughter of Laurine Carson Sands and Annie (Onie) Long Sands, of Salem, Alabama. She was married to Lewis Sellers who predeceased her the day after their 49th wedding anniversary. Her daughter Marsha Gullatt died in 1967 after a bicycle accident. She is survived by her daughter, Shelba Sellers, son-in-law Mark Mitchell, and his mother, Dorothy Mitchell. She is also survived by her caregivers, Gwendolyn Gloster, and Barbara Davis, who took excellent care of her over the last two years.
Mrs. Sellers attended her parents alma mater, Auburn University, and was employed as a model, stylist and salesperson at Regensteins in Atlanta, Georgia from 1960 to 1963. She moved to Smiths Station, Alabama, in 1964 where she met and later married Lewis Sellers and started her family. In 1971, she moved with her family to Eufaula, Alabama, where she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was director of their Keenagers, senior citizens program.
Her hobbies included movie trivia and collectables. She attended the premier of Gone with the Wind with her mother after her father was given tickets as a patient at Emory Hospital in 1939. She was cast by John Wayne as an extra in the movie The Green Berets filmed at Fort Benning in 1967. Subsequently, she was cast as a union worker in Norma Rae and is in the voting scene at the end of the movie. She can be seen as a parishioner in the church fire scene of A Time for Miracles, the Mother Seton story filmed in part in Westville, Georgia, near Lumpkin in 1979.
Mrs. Sellers will most likely be remembered for the words on her epitaph, a beautiful lady, a wonderful mother, a dutiful wife, and a sweet spirit.
The family will receive visitors at Allen and Allen Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00, on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. A funeral service will be held at Allen and Allen Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 Wednesday morning. Rev. Dwayne Varas will officiate and interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery
